Determining what school your child will attend

To find out which school your child will attend, use our
Home School Locator. The designated home school is determined by the student’s current home address and school boundaries. All contact information for our schools can be found in our School Search. From there, you can go to the 'About us' page on each school's website to find the name of the school's principal and trustee, school address and contact info, the start and end times, which bus zone the school is in, how to get to the school and much more!

Registering for the school year

Parents/guardians looking to register your child for the first time at a SCDSB school can complete the student registration form online. Upon completion of the online form, the school will contact you to finalize the registration.

Completing the online registration application
Step 1

Click on the ‘Student registration form’ icon below to begin the registration process. Once you have done so, create an SCDSB Community Account or log into your existing SCDSB Community Account.

You can also go directly to the Online Student Registration Application without creating/logging into a SCDSB Community Account. NOTE: Creating an SCDSB Community Account is not required, but if you create an account you will be able to access your registration application at any time, allowing you to complete the form in multiple sittings before submitting. If you do not create an SCDSB Community Account, you may still complete and submit a registration application, however the application must be completed in one sitting.

Step 2

Select the registration type and click the ‘Begin Application to Register’ button. Complete the online registration application form. Electronically sign the form and submit it. Your registration application will be directed to the student’s designated school based on the student’s current home address and registering grade level. Submitting the online form is only an application to register. Registering parents/guardians must meet with the school in person and present all required registration documents.

Step 3

The registering school will contact you to finalize the registration process. You will be required to present original copies of all required registration documents. The school will verify the information on the registration application and review the required registration documents. Once complete, your child will be enrolled at their designated school.

What documents do I need to bring with me?

When you meet with the school in person, you will be required to present original documents. The school will only view and verify the documents; they will not make or retain copies.

For further immunization details, contact the SMDHU at 1-877-721-7520.

The SCDSB recognizes that access to the internet and/or computer may be challenging in some cases. We will continue to accept paper copies of the student registration form.

Families new to Canada

Families new to Canada will meet with the SCDSB Newcomer Welcome Centre (NWC) as part of the registration process. The NWC supports the transition for students and families coming to an SCDSB school from outside of Canada.

Who Should Visit the NWC?

Families with a student who:

  • is born outside of Canada and has landed in the country in the past four years
  • is a permanent resident, refugee, has diplomatic status, or is accompanying parents with a work or study permit
  • is new to Canada, within the last four years and has attended another school system in Canada
  • is born outside of Canada to Canadian citizen parents but doesn't have proof of Canadian citizenship
